‘Time Together’, a community programme led by the charity Devon Business Education Trust (DBET), has been successfully awarded funding following an application to Awards for All. The funding will go towards enhancing the programme and ensure its ongoing delivery for the next two years.

Time Together is a local project supporting the over 70’s in our area in East Devon. Previous events have included memory cafes, pub trips. Transport and food provided, the highlight. It currently supports approximately 25 participants, with the new funding meaning the possibility to support many more.

This important new initiative has been established to provide time and a warm space on a regular basis for those living in our local rural areas who find accessing opportunities to engage with others difficult. As the colder months draw closer and the nights draw in, the opportunities for a stroll down the lane and an impromptu chat become less and it can make people feel lonely and isolated.

With this in mind, the aim of the programme is to provide monthly events for people who are isolated or lonely to spend ‘time together’ with the concerns about transport and finance taken care of.

The funding will allow us to expand our reach, work with mor volunteers and support even more people in the local area.

One participant said, "An excellent location run by friendly and supportive people.  A place where you can relax, forget the pressures of todays life and meet other like minded friends.  It's also an opportunity to make new friends whilst enjoying really good food!"

Chris Lorimer, director of DBET, said,  “This is very exciting to have been recohnised by awards for all. This funding will allow us to do and ensure we can keep providing this very important programme in the future. We know rural isolation can lead to loneliness so to be able to offer a programme like this makes a real difference to those in the local area. We’re looking forward to continuing to offer this programme and grow it in future so we can support even more people in the area.”

Time Together runs an event approximately once a month. To join an event or find out more, contact Anita on 01404 850 852 or 07777 617 415 or email us here
